I didn’t buy Frank as the Dawg pirate in Cutthroat Island and I don’t buy him as Dracula here. He isn’t scary to me.
The mashup of characters is weird. Mina related to Van Helsing, Renfield not in asylum. Lucy related to Dr Seward.
Jonathan is angsty in this, feels wrong.
Desaturated visuals felt correct for the story.
I like that Dr Seward uses laudanum and slapping as medicine.
Cars? Phones? Feels odd for the time.
Why break the original timeline with Jonathan going to Transylvania? They had a castle set and establishing shots to show it.
Instead of making melodrama mystical and scary it does the opposite reduces the spooky and mystical to melo drama.
Too long, man makes 1:49 feel like 2:35.
It feels like they want us to be into Dracula/Lucy relationship? And I am not.
