The IMAX version of this is incredible. The shot of Paul on the diagonal dune before the worm riding is burned into my brain.
Same with the emperors ship reflection.
Again with the scale
Any short comings I feel are in the source material. The movie peak sci-fi.
Tech, world building with almost no dialog.
The ending is abrupt and cheese ball but echos the first movie very well.
Stilguard feels like Morpheus in Matrix Reloaded.
I do feel like the dune message of beware of messiah figures is too subtle for most.
I like all the mechanical pumps and water harvesting tech.
The music swell at the end is peak Hans Zimmer
Soooo many names for Paul
Love scene is cheese ball dialog. But acting and moment feels honest.
The production design is so simple but tactile and epic.
Gooey fireworks
Little bit of the lord of the rings problem. Way too much story to cram into 1 movie.
Sometimes there is a frame rate change that feels forced and jittery (jessica traveling) some of the fights.
The “atomics” is a weird phrasing
I don’t buy “macho” Paul he is so scrawny and his shouty voice is a little strained.
I like the evil theme music for when paul walks to the cliff.
The simplicity of the art direction is so nice in Denis movies.
I think riding the sand worms is a cooler idea that it can look visually.
Something a little off when the soilders pop up from the sand the animation feels floaty to me (worse in first movie).
I think its funny the the Saudukar yell Sardukar
All battle scene feel not as good after Braveheart.
Altough not cinematic as a crazy drawn-out battle I appreciate the speed of Gurney’s fight with raban
Sad/Angry Zendaya faces during the last duel top notch acting.
Also the direction of having her character stand or kneel opposite of the group during duel and during the gathering in the south, top notch stuff.
Rebeca Rerguson wispers all her lines and I cannot hear them 🤣. This has to be a decision because its unique to these 2 movies.
